The Pros and Cons of Fall in Boston

Boston-Fall

This summer we had fantastic weather and most people are in no way ready to see it disappear, but we eventually have to face the tough reality that we do indeed live in New England, and one day it will be sunny and 75 in September and the next day it’ll drop to the 40’s. Summer in Boston is amazing, with beaches nearby, outdoor concerts, waterfront strolls, you name it, but Boston in the fall isn’t all bad when you think about the pros of the city during those months leading up to death (oops, I mean, winter in New England.) Here are a few pros and cons (mostly pros!) about Boston in the fall:

  1. Con: Baseball season eventually comes to a close. Pro: Football season is kicking off! (Did you know we here in Boston like sports??)
  2. Con: No more beach days. Pro: More apple picking and hayride days. (Tip: there are so many cute farms to take family and friends to outside the city during the fall season, makes sure to check some out!)
  3. Con: All the college kids come back. Pro: The college kids come back and take the spot of tourists, which in most people’s minds is a lot better. They keep the city stirring and know how the city operates, unlike tourists who don’t know the concept of a masshole driver.
  4. Con: The temperature does indeed drop a significant amount in the next three months. Pro: Who doesn’t love cute fall sweaters, boots, and vests?
  5. Con: The falling leaves can clutter up your yard/doorstep. Pro: Making leaf piles and jumping in them.
  6. Con: There isn’t as big a need to get an iced coffee from Dunks. Pro: Just kidding, yes there is. Dunks has iced coffee year round and no one will judge you for it being below freezing and having one in your hand.
  7. Con: There aren’t as many festivals out on the Boston common unlike the summer. Pro: Right outside Boston is the oldest fair of it’s kind, The Topsfield Fair, and it has fun for the entire family (pig races, biggest pumpkin you’ll ever see, fudge, the list goes on).
  8. Con: Canobie Lake Park (a small theme park) closes for the summer. Pro: Screamfest opens at Canobie Lake during October.
  9. Con: There are less free outdoor concerts. Pro: Salem, MA is the best place to go to stroll around outside during October, but be careful of Witches.
  10. Con: Boston is a summer town. Pro: Boston is not just a summer town, but is amazing year round.
